UI/UX Design Case Study: Language Learning Dashboard for an Online Teaching Company
As a UI/UX Designer, I collaborated with an online language teaching company on a project to design a new product development dashboard. The goal of this dashboard was to promote different methods of language learning, including podcasts, videos, and more, with active involvement from a community of teachers. My role was to design the overall dashboard and create distinct pages for each type of learning method. This project aimed to evaluate the feasibility of such a dashboard, ensuring it could effectively support diverse learning styles and enhance the user experience.
Project Overview
Company Background:
Memrise is a leading online language learning platform known for its innovative and engaging methods. It uses spaced repetition, multimedia content, and community-driven learning to help users master new languages. Offering courses designed by experts and native speakers, Memrise ensures an authentic and effective learning experience. With a focus on making language learning fun and accessible, Memrise is a popular choice for learners worldwide.
Project Scope:
The primary objectives of this project were to enhance Memrise's language learning platform by designing a new product development dashboard. The specific goals included:
This involved:
Promote Various Language Learning Methods:
Diverse Content: Develop and integrate various learning methods such as podcasts, videos, and interactive exercises into the dashboard. Each method is designed to cater to different learning preferences, providing users with multiple ways to engage with the material.
User Engagement: Ensure that the design of each learning page is optimized to promote engagement and retention, making language learning more dynamic and enjoyable.
Evaluate the Feasibility of the Proposed Dashboard:
Prototype Development: Develop a functional prototype of the dashboard to test and validate the design concepts. This includes creating wireframes and interactive prototypes for each type of learning method.
The project aimed to create a versatile and user-friendly dashboard that enhances the learning experience, engages the teacher community, and validates the feasibility of integrating these new features into Memrise's platform.
Role:
My role involved several key responsibilities:
Wireframing and Prototyping:
Created low-fidelity wireframes to outline the structure and flow of the dashboard and individual learning pages.
Developed high-fidelity prototypes to visualize the design solutions for various learning methods such as podcasts, videos, and interactive exercises.
Design Iteration:
Iterated on the design based on feedback from usability testing and stakeholder reviews, ensuring that the final designs addressed user needs and business goals.
Regrouped with the team regularly to discuss findings, brainstorm solutions, and refine the designs.
UI Design System Development:
Contributed to the creation of a cohesive UI design system, including the development of UI components, style guides, and design principles to ensure consistency across the dashboard.
Designed intuitive and visually appealing interfaces that enhance the user experience and promote engagement with various learning methods.
