RFYL for iOS & Android

Last updated: September 2026

The short version

RFYL is a public, anonymous map. Every pin you add is visible to everyone who uses the app — that is the point. What is never visible, to anyone, is who added it. There are no accounts, and we do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts or photos.

What we store

When you add a pin, we store on our servers:

  • •The location of the pin (the spot you chose — not your live position)
  • •The category, severity, date and time you selected, and the note you typed, if any
  • •A random identifier generated on your phone when you first open the app

The random identifier is what lets you edit or delete your own pins and vote once per pin. It is not linked to your name, device serial, advertising ID or anything else about you, and it is never shown to other users. If you delete the app, it is gone and your past pins can no longer be edited by anyone.

Votes ("Is this still a problem? Yes / No"), removal requests and category suggestions are stored the same way, tied only to that random identifier.

What we do not store

  • •Your movements. Your location is used on your phone to show the map around you and to place a pin; it is not sent to us unless you add a pin, and then only the pin's coordinates are sent.
  • •Photos, names, or contact details. The app has no way to attach them.
  • •Analytics, advertising identifiers or tracking. RFYL contains no third-party analytics or ad SDKs.

Public by design

Pins are public and anonymous. Please describe places, not people: no names, descriptions of individuals, licence plates or addresses of homes. Anyone can flag a pin for removal, and pins fade automatically when enough people say the problem is gone. The Bad Lemon reviews removal requests and may hide any pin that is abusive, identifies a person, or is clearly false.

Where the data lives

Pins are stored in a database hosted by Supabase in the European Union (Ireland). Maps are provided by Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on Android; those services receive map tile requests under their own privacy policies, as with any map app.

Your choices

  • •Edit or delete any pin you added, from its card in the app.
  • •Use the app without location access — you can still browse the map and drop pins by hand.
  • •Ask us to remove a pin, from inside the app ("Request removal") or by contacting us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as RFYL evolves. Significant changes will be announced through the app stores and on this page.
